Elco Laboratories

Solutions For A Cleaner World

With full-service capabilities, we handle each and every aspect of the product development process, from research and development to production and fulfillment.

Elco, a division of Chicago Aerosol, has extensive manufacturing and packaging capabilities that include a long list of product forms, such as liquids, creams, aerosols, gels, tablets and vacuum bags, belts and filters. All of our products are subjected to rigorous quality standards and adhere to applicable regulatory guidelines.

Innovation is what sets Elco apart. World-renowned chemist Dr. Bhupen Trivedi spearheads our Research and Development laboratory, which is responsible for many of the commercially available products you see today. Bhupen’s vast technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of all the latest raw materials enables Elco to provide its customers with products that meet and exceed any competition.

Elco is constantly looking for ways in which to reduce its footprint. The purchasing of components and the formulation of products, the use of post-consumer content and recycled material, and the management and disposal of waste are all carried out with the utmost respect for the environment. A large number of our Fresh Solutions® products bear the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Safer Choice” certification*, a program designed to ensure that every chemical, regardless of percentage, is evaluated by the EPA to ensure that it is safe for you and the environment.

As part of the PLZ Aeroscience family of companies, Elco Labs is backed by the resources of the largest custom aerosol packaging and manufacturing group in North America, making it the Right Choice today and into the future.

Elco Laboratories meets and exceeds industry standard guidelines for responsible sustainability practices, and that diligence extends to our relationships with vendors, suppliers and even customers. The purchasing of components and the formulation of products, the use of post-consumer content and recycled material and the management and disposal of waste are all carried out with the utmost respect for the environment.

EPA Safer Choice

We were one of the first manufacturers to work with the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Safer Choice” program, a certification we are proud to feature on many of our products. Products with the Safer Choice label help consumers identify and select products with safer chemical ingredients, without sacrificing quality or performance.

To be eligible for the label, our products were subjected to EPA’s strict Safer Choice Standard, which is designed with very stringent human health and environmental criteria. The Safer Choice Standard incorporates safer chemical criteria for individual component class ingredients, like surfactants, solvents and chelants.

During evaluation, the EPA does not just prohibit ingredients based on lists of chemicals of concern — it applies analytical methods developed by the EPA — in order to compensate for a lack of toxicological data and prevent the use of problematic chemicals that have not made it to a list.

Adding Safer Choice products to your line can help differentiate you from the competition. Major retailers, such as Wal-Mart, Safeway, Home Depot, and Target, have given special status to Safer Choice products. Executive Order 13693 directs federal agencies to select Safer Choice-labeled products whenever possible. Safer Choice is also mandated by many state and municipal purchasers and is included in the LEED EB standard for maintenance in green buildings.

Internally, we subject the materials we work with to very specific rules and regulations relating to waste and its disposal. Flammable liquid is used as a secondary fuel for an incinerator licensed for such use. The majority of scrap and packaging materials are recycled or returned to the vendor.

We actively work to expand and improve our green practices, and the quality of our products is never compromised. Agendas in place include:

  • Recycling cardboard packaging, plastic waste, aluminum, steel aerosol cans, lead batteries, and electronic devices, wooden pallets, steel, plastic and fiber drums, both ferrous and non-ferrous metals from maintenance items, office paper and publications
  • Use of reclaimed product from the filling process
  • Use of T8 and T5 efficient fluorescent lamps and occupancy sensors
  • Use of explosion proof LED lighting in our fill rooms
  • Use of electronic frequency drives for motors
  • Use of computerized combustion analysis for burner control
  • Use of air knives and air jets to reduce compressed air consumption
  • Use of infrared thermography to identify heat build-up or loss
  • Formulate products that are VOC responsible
  • Air monitoring at production facilities
  • Reclamation of product and propellant
  • Line scheduling to reduce scrap
  • Use of nitrogen blanketing to reduce emissions
  • Use of floating roof tanks to reduce VOC emissions
